Breakthrough Quasar® high power hybrid fibre laser
Spectra-Physics' Quasar presents a breakthrough in hybrid fibre laser technology delivers an industry leading >40 W of UV power or >70 W of green. Quasar is the only laser in its class to feature the novel TimeShift™ technology for programmable pulse profiles for ultimate precision in processing speed, flexibility and control.

Quasar is an OEM laser combining advanced fibre laser, power amplifier and patented harmonics technologies. Quasar with TimeShift technology enables pulse energy programmability in the time domain by controlling pulse width and shape and repetition rate material micromachining processing can be optimised thereby increasing processing speed and quality. Unlike conventional Q-switched lasers, Quasar's TimeShift technology maintains constant pulse width over a wide range of repetition frequencies ranging from 1-500 kHz.

NEW release from Newport at Photonics West GradBox

Newport's Burst Picker solution
The Burst Picker when used in conjunction with a CW mode-locked laser, such as Spectra-Physics® Mai-Tai® DeepSee™, the Burst Picker excites samples via a "burst" mode. In this mode, only a user-defined number of laser pulses are selected and employed in the excitation of the specimen. In addition, the burst repetition rate can be tuned within a wide range of values accommodating the needs of many experimental conditions.

New Advanced UV optics
Newport continues to produce UV optics with outstanding performance. One of the new UV optics Newport has introduced is the long-lived deep ultraviolet excimer laser mirrors with projected lifetimes greater than 30 billion pulses. The advanced new mirrors feature all dielectric high reflector coatings to minimise absorption and maximise reflected energy at 193 nm.

Newport's new laser mirrors offer exceptionally high laser damage resistance. The exceptionally long lived mirrors come in special Pet-G and metal foil packaging to ensure that the parts are delivered clean and protected from any environmental photocontamination.

XM Series Ultra-Precision Linear Motor Stages (MIM down to 1 nm)
The XM ultra-precision linear stages provide high sensitivity and outstanding trajectory accuracy in a compact, robust and cost effective package. They are an excellent, ultra high-performance solution for applications such as semiconductor wafer inspection, sensor test and calibration, laser machining and ultra-precision assembly.

The XM Series Ultra-Precision linear motor stages have Ultra-high performance with MIM down to 1 nm.

Unlike screw driven stages, the XM employs a centre-driven, ironless linear motor as the driving element. Since the linear motor is a frictionless direct drive device, there is no backlash or hysteresis, wind-up or stiction limiting the motion performance. The linear motor drive also offers the advantage of higher speed, acceleration and system responsiveness with no wear to motor brushes or drive screws. The extra-large, ironless motor coil ensures zero cogging for ultra-smooth velocity control and provides higher efficiency compared to alternative stage designs. This results in significantly less heat generation, which is generally the main limit for ultra-precision motion applications. To further improve thermal management and its effect on stage performance, the XM also has the benefit of a sophisticated length decoupling of the magnetic track from the stage carriage.

8081-UHV Ultra High Vacuum Motorised 5-Axis kinematic Stage
Our popular 8081 XYZΘxΘy Motorized Five-Axis Tilt Aligner which increases the utility of our popular kinematic stages by motorising each of the axes can now be used in UHV environments (10-9 Torr) as well as for VUV/EUV applications. The Picomotor™ actuators on each axis allows better than <30 nm high-resolution adjustment of various combinations of X, Y, Z, Θx, and Θy. With its minimal backlash, it is excellent for long term stability and high stiffness.

The 8081-UHV has been tested and measured to outgas levels less than 5 ppm of volatile mass at 85 °C over three hours. Mass Spectrograms detailing the exact outgassing compounds are available upon request. The stage has two 8-32 and seven ¼-20 tapped holes shown here

aeroGAIN-ROD Double-Clad Rod Fibres with Extra Large Mode Area
The aeroGAIN-ROD is a new generation of ytterbium gain fibres designed specifically for the ultra-fast fibre laser market.

The output power of ultra-fast fibre lasers has typically been limited to a few Watts due to nonlinear effects. Bigger cores and shorter fibre are traditionally the go-to solutions but often with compromises in mode quality and stability to follow. Not anymore.

Now, rod fibres bridges and overlaps the fibre world with the DPSS crystalline rod based world without the need for in-house fibre handling skills. The non-coilable rod waveguides represent the ultimate performance with a range of unique features:
– Diffraction limited beam quality
– MW peak power handling
– High single pass gain
– Guidance of signal and pump
– Excellent beam pointing
– Polarisation maintaining
– High efficiency (> 60%)
– High pump acceptance angle (NA > 0.5)
– Polarisation independent pump absorption

The aeroGAIN-ROD is typically used as the output amplifier stage in ultra-fast pulsed fibre lasers, where it replaces the traditional Nd:YAG, Nd:YLF and Nd:YVO4 laser crystals

Updated Entry-Guard SIS control panel
Kentek has released an updated version of their Entry-Guard SIS control panel. The new compact laser interlock system has all the features expected from their popular control panel but in a smaller package. If you are setting up a new laser lab or need to improve your laser safety system please contact the NewSpec team about the Entry-Guard SIS.

Kentek's Entry-Guard Safety Interlock System (SIS) provides a complete fail-safe Access Control System (ACS).Its primary function is to ensure that unauthorised personnel are prohibited from areas where laser radiation may be present. When the power to the controller is interrupted, critical outputs, such as door magnetic locks and laser interlocks, revert to a safe state: magnetic locks off and interlocks open.

The Entry-Guard system consolidates all controls onto a single control panel and external accessories can easily be integrated for different applications.The Entry-Guard SIS is a premade off the shelf system that is easily configurable to match the requirements of different situations. Examples of components that can be integrated into a solution include;
- Illuminated warning signs
- Audible signals
- Interlock
- Magnetic locks/latches
- Keypads
- Start/Exit switches
- Emergency stop switches
- Laser shutters

NEW release from Oclaro GradBox

The Smallest and Most Lightweight 4 and 8 Beam Red Laser Diodes
Oclaro have announced significant advancements in its red laser diodes that has enabled them to reduce the size of 4 beam red laser diodes by 75% (from TO9.0 mm to TO5.6 mm) and 8 beam red laser diodes by 80% (from TO16.0 to TO9.0 mm.) These significant reductions will enable customers designing laser beam printers (LBPs) and multi-function printers (MFPs) to design smaller and more compact printers or to utilise the extra space for adding more features and functionality. In addition, Oclaro has significantly improved the printing quality of its red laser diodes by modifying their structure to produce the smallest and most precise laser beam available from any red laser diode in the industry.

25 W Uncooled Multimode Laser Diode Module
Oclaro's new 25 W multimode single emitter based laser diode module BMU25-9xx-01/02-R has been designed to provide an increased power output enabling fibre laser and direct system manufacturers to generate higher powers with fewer modules, allowing for more compact pump configurations, greater pump block efficiency and simplification of packaging. Its compact design reduces the footprint of fibre laser pump stages.

The module includes multimode laser diodes with E2 front mirror passivation that prevents Catastrophic Optical Damage (COD) to the laser diode facet even at very high power levels. The laser diodes are connected in series to allow for fast current switching. The module includes a feedback protection filter that protects the laser diodes from harmful fibre laser wavelength feedback light.
