NewSpec End of Year eNews

Over the holiday period NewSpec will shut down for Christmas at close of business on Tuesday, December 23rd and will reopen in 2015 on Monday January 5th.

Despite the tough funding environment for researchers, and everyone needing their equipment for less, we have once again had a busy year at NewSpec. After 7 years renting our Gilbert Street address, we decided it was time for a move….eventually, stacking desks two high to fit the next person in becomes tedious. In February we purchased a new building, and in May we moved in at 330 Glen Osmond Road, Myrtle Bank. It is a fantastic location at the bottom of the South Eastern Freeway, with easy access for most of our staff from all directions. A bit less time battling the city traffic, giving us a little more time to focus on what is important, be it families or work.

In November we had two significant events……on the 29th NewSpec officially (according to the ATO) turned ten years old, which did make a few of us wonder where all the time went. Like any business, during the stressful weeks we do wonder why we did it, but most of the time the answer is fairly obvious. We were also joined by Dr Andrew Richardson (along with his wife Cass and son Kai). We are really excited to have Andrew join our team, and he has had an immediate impact with his passion for all things business. Not yet sure if the addition of Frosty (a very sugar focussed fridge) and coffee machine (that coincidentally seemed to turn up at the same time as coffee-passionate Andrew) are good or bad things yet, only time will tell!!

We hope everyone has a fantastic and safe holiday season, and look forward to continued discussions this year, or speaking to you again next year.

Happy New Year to you, and Happy Birthday to us!

The NewSpec team.

New Laser Safety Standards

Last month saw the introduction of a new Australia/New Zealand laser safety standard, AS/NZS IEC 60825.1:2014, which is a direct copy of IEC 60825-1 Ed 3.0. NewSpec has put together a brief summary document of what we consider are the major changes to the standard, if you would like a copy please contact Andrew.
